Gary Clark (Trombone)
Gary "Brassy" Clark plays lead trombone for the band.
While attending Ohio State, Gary played with the Ohio State Concert Band as well as the
Ohio State Symphony Orchestra. After college he toured with the Tommy Dorsey Band for
a year or so and then played with several Cincinnati dance bands.
Gary has played with several groups around Columbus, including the Rick Brunetto Orchestra,
Nostalgics, Upper Arlington Symphony, Reynoldsburg Brass Quartet, the Reynoldsburg
Community Orchestra and, of course, Swing's the Thing.
Gary and his wife Mona reside in Granville and are the owners of Auto Illusions in Newark, Ohio.
They enjoy their two sons Brant and Derek
Gary can't recall when he started playing the trombone. Says he can't remember back that far.
His words of wisdom are "don't quit playing your instrument as you're never too old just to enjoy it".

Mike Swinger (Bass Trombone)
Mike began his musical journey with the obligatory piano lessons, then took up cello, euphonium, and finally trombone, all of which he played
through Jr. and Sr. High in every available ensemble, as well as playing in Dixieland and dance bands on the side. An important guiding
influence on his early musical development was Spike Jones---which could explain a lot.
In college he played in The Wooster Symphony, the Harvard Orchestra, and later in local early music ensembles--The Early Interval and The
Columbus Cornet and Sacbut Ensemble. He also studied organ building in Vienna, and built and restored tracker organs, and recently retired
from teaching Art History.
Mike has played and continues to play trombone in a number of local ensembles: The Upper Arlington Orchestra; community bands in
Columbus, Clintonville, and Lancaster; in area churches; The Golden Buckeyes, the River Ratz, the Nostalgics, and of course, Swing's The
Thing.
Mike serves as the group's official Curmudgeon and plays bass trombone when not otherwise distracted.
